Today my morning meditation centered around the idea of acceptance. The idea that we have three angles when approaching feelings. We can 1) accept them as they are, 2) change to adapt to these feelings, or 3) leave (or ignore) these feelings alone.

I write often about anxiety, as it’s a feeling I’ve worked with for several years. Below are the stream of consciousness words I wrote in my journal this morning.

Remember, anxiety is a signal that the uncertain future is near. It’s a sign that I’m doing something that stretches my ability, and keeps me learning and growing. It’s a healthy feeling that should be accepted and embraced. Lean in to this feeling, it is your superpower. You are pushing yourself. It’s supposed to be uncomfortable. Accept the uncertainty. Remember that when the thought arises “what if I fall?”, ask yourself “what if I fly?”.

Thoughts from this entry were inspired by a book I read recently titled Future Tense by Tracy Dennis-Tiwary, who is working to reframe the way we understand and work with anxiety.
